TOP 5 SUMMER TIPS
1. TIME TO GET OUTDOORS!
One thing I love to do is do interval training in a park or hiking trail. Bring your resistance bands with you! After you walk and do a sufficient warm up, you can do stationed interval sets. For example……Walk 10 minutes, then do a set of one-arm rows or double rows, then right into a set of biceps curls. Walk faster for another 10 minutes and do a set of push ups followed by a set of one-arm triceps extentions or dips. Walk fast again for 10 minutes and do a set of shoulder presses or alternating shoulder presses, lateral raises or alternating lateral raises, and bent over rear-deltoid raises or one arm rear deltoid raises. Walk fast again and if there is a bench of any kind nearby, do a set of step ups…. You get the idea!
2. HIT THE POOL!
Grab a paddle board and do some laps just scissor kicking your legs. Great for your hamstrings and butt! You can also do laps doing breast stroke, side stroke, back stroke…..
Another great thing to do is go by the side of the pool and use your own body’s resistance doing outer thigh and inner thigh leg lifts.
Usually there are some type of stairs leading into the pool, which make it great to do dips and push ups. Get creative! Buy some arm weights and do arm circles, lateral biceps curls, etc….
Hit the bike path or challenge yourself with some mountain biking. Whatever your level or your pleasure, this is such a great way to not only get a great cardio workout, it is so amazing for your inner peace of mind and is a great stress reducer. Getting into NATURE IS WHERE IT IS AT! I love to rent a bike and go along the bike path from Marina del Rey to Hermosa Beach and back. So therapeutic!
4. EAT MORE FRESH FRUITS AND VEGGIES!
Everything is in season so please take advantage!!!!!! Watermelon first thing in the morning is so great to alkalanize your body. Make sure to eat it alone before meals. Wait at least 30 minutes before eating anything else. Also, berries are amazing source of anti-oxidants and fantastic nutrition. Get lots of veggies into your diet and make sure to use a variety, as well as to incorporate sprouts into your salads!!!!
5. HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE…..
Drink plenty of purified water and please do not substitute coffee and tea for your water intake. Remember that caffeine is toxic to your liver and you need to replace the water you lose on a daily basis. Our bodies are made up of %70 percent water, so we need to make sure we drink 8 big glasses of water every day. Also remember that watermelon and other fruits and veggies are high water content foods, which is another great reason to make sure you get plenty of them into your diet.
