People are always asking me what I do for my skin, so I decided to share my routine with you. I find it pretty amusing, because I don’t think I have very good skin at all. I guess it’s all in the eye of the beholder, right? But, just for the record, I have really large pores, oily skin (well up to the point I moved to Denver that isJ), lots of age spots, broken capillaries, and I still break out from time to time. So, if you still want to know what I do for my skin, here it is.
First, I truly believe that good skin comes from the inside. So, it matters what you put into your body. The more high water content foods, like fruits and veggies, you can eat the better. Also, it is very important to drink tons of water and to cut back or completely cut out processed foods, sugar, alcohol, fried food and junk food. You know what I’m talking about, right?:)
Second, I really try my best to stay out of the sun. I use to bake myself when I lived in Wisconsin, and I am amazed I didn’t do more damage. Remember those days when you would put iodine in your baby oil to attract MORE SUN. Yikes! I would lay frozen and not move for hours just so the rays would hit me just right. I guess I was lucky, because I do have very olive skin so I didn’t burn like most people.
When I turned 30, I decided to stop indulging in basking at the beach or pool. Instead, I made sure I was loaded up with sunscreen and that I wore a big floppy hat to protect my face and chest. Thank goodness I got smart.
Third, I have used PURPOSE face cleanser for years. It is very clean and simple and removes all the dirt, makeup and impurities…even eye makeupJ In the morning, I follow that up with an oil free Sunscreen. I’ve tried a few, but the ones that work the best for me is either Neutrogena Oil Free Moisture SPF 15 or Murad Perfecting Day Cream SPF 30. I use the Clarins pore scrub One-Step Exfoliating Cleanser with Orange extract 3x per week to exfoliate and remove dead skin. In the evening, I use Clarins Fluid Hydratant Matifiant Hydra Matte Lotion for combination skin for under my makeup.
My night treatment changes a bit. Right now I am using either the Murad Age Balancing Night Cream or the Clarins Double Serum. Both really work great!
One of the most important things I do for my skin is a monthly microderm or a mild glycolic treatment. This has truly helped reduce pores and even out skin tone giving it a smoother look. It can be expensive, but I feel it is really worth it. In between those treatments, I use the Murad Intensive C Radiance Peel a few times a week to brighten the skin and Clarins Doux Gentle Peeling once a week to remove dead skin.
I never leave the house without putting on body sunscreen. I like Kiehl’s Vital Sun Protection SPF 30. For body moisturizers, which are essential living here in Denver, I use JoJoba Oil when my skin is still damp after shower and then Lubriderm Lotion and/or H2o + Spa Sea Moss Body Lotion Spray and/or Coconut Oil.
For makeup, I actually love Cover Girl’s + Olay Tone Rehab Foundation and Cover Girl + Olay Eye Rehab Concealer. The makeup has a matt finish and goes on the skin great with a light coverage. I use the concealer to cover any pigmentation problems, dark spots or blemishes that may be going on. To set my makeup, I’ve used Bobby Brown’s powder for years. It’s funny, but as I have gotten older, I go for some of the cheaper make-up and cosmetics, because they work just as well if not better than the really expensive one’s. Recently, I also decided to try the Lash Out Butterfly Mascara by L’oreal. At first it can be pretty clumpy, but if you wipe the excess with a kleenex, it works really great. I use makeup forever eye pencils, as well as Urban Decay. I try my best to keep my makeup on the natural side, so I don’t use much eye shadow or blush unless I’m going out somewhere special in the evening. Then, I absolutely love the Naked 2 Eye Shadow set by Urban Decay and the colored Aqua Matic eye pencils by Makeup Forever…Fabulous! For blush, I haven’t found the perfect one yet, but I do like the powder blush by Mac, Nars, and Chanel and a fluid sheer one by Georgio Armani. As far as lipstick, I am a complete freak over lipgloss. I have a million of them. I always apply a lipstick first and then add a gloss over it. Some of my favorites are Revlon, Mac and Guerlain lipsticks and Rimmel Lipgloss.
To complete my look, I use eyebrow powder by Anastasia to fill in all those little empty spaces and to give a finished full look to the brows. Really is essential to frame the eyes properly. For special occasions, I use Dior Airflash Spray Foundation on my chest for a smooth and flawless finishJ
With all that said, I do feel that beauty comes from within, and that the better you take care of yourself, the more radiant you will look.
